In light of the recent discoveries of individuals in high positions not paying taxes, or having “tax issues”.

Sure, as well as with corporate leaders, too

Yes, because they are so corrupt and have caused this country so much trouble I believe so.
They start out wanting to help the country then land up hurting it.

As Lincoln once said (paraphrase)…you were expecting to meet a virgin in a whorehouse?

Every single elected and appointed official in the US government should undergo an IRS Audit.
It will be interesting to see how many of the people who want MORE of our money are not paying their share of the taxes.

Well that would tie up many resources necessary to pass this stimulus bill.
Politicians should be exempt of taxes after all it is there job to raise our taxes.

There is , at least some type .That’s why the house of cards is crumbling

To what end? They’ll just pay their unpaid taxes, say their sorry and that will be the end of it. Then they’ll start in cheating again. Why waste the IRS resources?

I think it would be smart politically for all 535 members of Congress to volunteer for an audit. The president should also submit.

Quite a few of them are probably scrambling right now to review their tax records lest any embarrassing disclosures come to light. We probably should have such an investigation. Frankly, in higher income groups, I think many people would have some issues that the IRS would interpret differently from they way they did.

Yes, yes yes!!! They make the rules and should not break the same rules

I’d say that is a definite YES.
Our economy ***** and the dems are always complaining how the rich republicans don’t pay enough taxes. We have seen now two prominent dems up there who have bilked the system. Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black now. Changes how I’ve viewed the democratic party.
Someone call Joe the Plumber and let him know that although his taxes are going to go up, Obama is o.k. with him not paying his back taxes. The dems put egg all over Joe’s face because of his tax problems, yet embrace these politicians for the same thing (Joe’s bill was even considerably less).

politicians should be automatically audited every year.

YES and it should go BEYOND Taxes. They should be investigated for ‘holdings’….Too much “Conflict of Interest” is going on! (Lobbyists, Bribes, etc)
November 25th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Yes, definitely!

I am glad to see a question on here that includes all politicians, not just one party, as either effects us all as a whole, It’s shameful that
they come up with it was an oversight, a mistake, Any one of us would not get away with that excuse. and we know it and they know it.
The other thing that bugs me is Hillary still owing 6 million dollars, and
looking to be bailed out by Obama’s funds or the party.
