Im having issues with my tax return but why?
Efren G asked:
I received a letter from the irs this is what it reads….We have received your tax return and it is being reviewed. You will receive a notice from us requesting additional information from you. When you receive the notice, please provide the requested information within 30 days. You may not receive all or a part of your refund until we receive and review the information we requested from you. If you need more information after you receive our notice, call the number on the notice…..Does anyone know about how long this takes and why this sorta thing happens…?

There’s a question on something that you have claimed on your return that the IRS needs to address. The most likely items are EIC claims or the new First Time Home Buyer credit.
I’ve done EIC claims for 3 folks this year that this is the first year that they are claiming the EIC. All 3 of them are being delayed until proof of entitlement is sent to the IRS. I’ve also done one FTHB credit and the IRS asked for proof there as well.

Dear E: I presume you are talking about this years return. Most likely the IRS wants to make sure the kids you claimed are yours or eligible for you to claim. If it’s an issue with children you will have to send proof that the kids live with you and this can be done with school records or doctors/medical records. The part of the refund that is not dependent or children will be released. Did your return change from last year? This is not a quick process and at the minimum 6-8 weeks. If you claimed any other credits they maybe the issue. Start getting your paper work ready and mail or fax it promptly to the IRS.
