If you voted on the tax issue only, why would you vote Repubican? McCain plans to further decrease taxes to ?
Judith asked:
the rich and to corporations. Contrary to what McCain alleges, Obama plans to reduce taxes to those earning under $250,000 a year and increase taxes to the rich.

Q2 – Do you plan on watching the debates so that you can make up your own minds based upon what you hear from each candidate rather than what one candidate says about the other in their misleading TV ads?
My sources: Time Magazines last 3 issues and watching Obama speak.

Does anyone seriously believe either candidate will result in lower taxes for anyone?
Under either candidate the 2003 Tax Cuts will be allowed to expire.

I don’t believe Obama will win ..just for the fact he is a lair
and a flip flop artist
He won’t lower your taxes or mine..but you can dream he will
but he won’t get elected..Bary is done Bary

I would not and could not vote republican, on account of being a British Citizen, not American! Why are you posting a question like that on YA UK & Ireland?
April 8th, 2009 at 8:34 am
The truth is that Bush has increased the federal collective debt of every single American by tens of thousands of dollars – including our children. That equals a short term tax hike of a great many percent, and yet the republicans completely disregard this fact. They also disregard the interest rate, unemployment etc.

Seriously. There are a lot of lies flying around at the moment that Obama plans to raise taxes. There is absolutely no truth to them.
Obama’s plan cuts taxes for those that earn under 250,000. 97% of Americans would benefit, and would pay LESS.
The idea that he will raise taxes for average Americans is a pathetic lie.
April 14th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
It has been widely reported that Obama’s tax plan will return rates to those of the 90’s for those making > $250,000/yr, and a tax reduction for the other 85% of Americans. Republicans continue to lie about this because their supporters are sheep who will not even google info to find out for themselves.
I do plan on watching the debates.

Yes, Obama’s whole platform involves raising taxes, taxes, taxes. He does not understand basic ecconomics. McCains Plan does not involve raising taxes, its cutting spending and increasing investments.
No, I have no interest in seeing “debates” they are just scripted tv shows. I will base on policies and what they have done. Like many, I would rather judge on what someone has done and shown, Obama has nothing to show.

Clinton promised a tax cut and health care, what we got was higher taxes and no health care, and my job went to Mexico
April 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I would not vote for McCain. I know his history of looking out for corporations rather than workers.
April 21st, 2009 at 9:41 pm
This is a classic case of “look only at the parts that I want you to see and ignore the small print.”
Obama pledges to cut taxes for all but those making over $250K.
BUT
He also pledges to do away with all of the tax breaks and incentives that the middle class already has. So when you factor it all out, you will be paying more under Obama than under McCain.
CAPITAL GAINS TAX
MCCAIN
0% on home sales up to $500,000
per home (couples) McCain does not propose any change in existing home sales income tax.
OBAMA
28% on profit from ALL home sales
How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes.
DIVIDEND TAX
MCCAIN 15% (no change)
OBAMA 39.6%
How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama become president. The experts predict that ‘higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.
INCOME TAX
MCCAIN (no changes)
Single making 30K – tax $4,500
Single making 50K – tax $12,500
Single making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 60K- tax $9,000
Married making 75K – tax $18,750
Married making 125K – tax $31,250
OBAMA
(reversion to pre-Bush tax cuts)
Single making 30K – tax $8,400
Single making 50K – tax $14,000
Single making 75K – tax $23,250
Married making 60K – tax $16,800
Married making 75K – tax $21,000
Married making 125K – tax $38,750
Under Obama your taxes will more than double!
INHERITANCE TAX
MCCAIN 0% (No change, Bush repealed this tax)
OBAMA Restore the inheritance tax
How does this affect you? Many families have lost businesses, farms and ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax.
NEW TAXES BEING PROPOSED BY OBAMA
* New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet
* New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren’t high enough already)
* New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity)
* New taxes on retirement accounts and last but not least….
* New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

Clinton promised the exact same thing….and we all were taxed more. The thing about it is that
1) Those people already have a almost 40% tax rate….how much more would be “fair”? Furthermore, with his increases in spending and his most current lack of decreases in spending (IE the war where he admits he won’t stop until the job is finished), this won’t be enough revenue. He is going to have to tax more people.
2)The extra stuff he wants to do is increase capital gains tax and that will effect every 401K holder as they attempt to cash out during retirement. Check it out yourself and tell me I’m wrong….I dare you!

Obama’s plan is to increase EVERYONES taxes.I know that he’s sold this BS “I’m going to cut the Middle Class’s Taxes” but if he rolls back the current tax cuts then he raises mine over $800 a year at least, that’s a tax increase,so how is it he plans on lowering my taxes? It’s all smoke and mirrors,no Lib has ever lowered taxes that I know of,and no Lib ever will. Those welfare checks don’t pay for themselves you know.
NObama 08-OR EVER
August 4 President

Well, I guess it boils down to do you believe in putting money at the top, and letting it trickle down, or do you believe in putting money at the bottom, and letting it trickle up.
Personally, I have always believed the trickle down theory is b***s***. The money never manages to trickle down to the people who need it. However, if you put money in at the bottom, it means more spending power, and it does trickle up.
That’s part of the reason why I am voting for Obama.
And yes, I plan to watch the debates if I can, but it’s mainly because I want to see how Obama and Biden stack up against McCain and Palin when it comes to debating. I have a good idea of how it’s going to look already, but hey, it’s like free tickets to the circus!
April 27th, 2009 at 6:49 am
Republican for Obama!
I cannot vote for the Manchurian candidate!
Can’t wait for the debates to see how much they programed McLame?
April 27th, 2009 at 8:05 pm
Here is a link comparing both tax plans notice how most of the increase is in the top 1% of earners. People making 600,000 or more per year pay about 100,000 more in taxes while middle income families get more tax relief. I guess thats why republicans are screaming socialism but the fact is those people are still clearing 500,000 $ while right now middle class families can barely afford gas to go to work. The super rich have had their 8 years of being even richer under George W. Bush. It is time to help the people that actually need it. The vodoo trickle down republican economic philosophy is garbage and only works on paper here is proof.

I wonder how McCain thinks the trillion dollar bailout of Wall Street Companies will be paid… maybe the Fairy Cash Mother will come and save us all
April 28th, 2009 at 7:14 am
McCain is right.
We cannot afford to let any more businesses leave the US because it is too expensive to do business here.

As stated in his address to the people yesterday Sept 19th in Wisconsin John McCain CLEARLY defined, not vague generalities like someone else, but real numbers.
McCain stated that a family with an income of 42,000 would get a 5000 dollar tax credit to use for health care.
People with child dependants would recieve double the old exemption from 3500 to 7000 per child.
And buisnesses of all sizes would have their taxes lowered from 35% to 25%.
Does that sound like it’s for the rich?.
Also no taxes would be raised because monies cut from wastefull govmt spending and an invigorated buisness climate would cover those needs.

Because, to limit corporate America’s ability to put money into building their companies will not help the economy. They need capital to grow their business and in case no one has noticed commercial loans are becoming hard to come by. Just ask the big three auto companies. Currently asking congress for a bail out.
Yes I will watch the debates to hear the candidates answer questions about the issues, instead of the attach ads each party is running.
