I am a British Citizen, what possible tax issues could I encounter due to working in the US for 3-4 months?
Holly asked:
I am from the UK and I will be working (legally, using a visa) in the US for approximately 3-4months. I will be paid via my american bank account, in american funds, as a local. How does this affect taxes I have to pay? Do I have to pay in the US and the UK? Is there a way I can claim back tax in the US? Also, do I need some kind of social security number? Any other advice would be grand.

double taxation is an issue but there are systems to minimize the taxation on the income. This issue will arise if you shift the money from country to country. The US will tax it, the UK may not if you pay tax in one country normally you do not pay in the other. Check with law firms and CPA’s on the actual structured accounts that need to be set up to minimize tax. This is one of the reasons many UK residents use offshore banking firms.
